![]() ![]() There is no reason to write backstory for a legacy weapon (or anything else) if it is not going to influence the overall story of the game. When was it created? Did it fulfill its purpose? Were there other notable wielders? Was the item lost? Is it still lost? A strong aback story can help with the next part of process, choosing powers and properties. ![]() There are other questions you may want to ask. While the table “What is a detail from its History” can help you determine its history. What is the item? What does it look like? Why does it look that way? Why was it created? Who created it? Who was the item created for? You can use two of the magic item Special Features tables from the Dungeon Master’s Guide (pages 142-143).: The “Who Created it or Was intended Use it” can give ideas for who created it and who it was for. The first thing you want to consider is the backstory of the item. Later, this post will discuss Attunement, Sentience, and Balance. To make a legacy weapon, first start with its Backstory then move on to Power Progression. One final note, “legacy weapon” will refer any item that progress in power as the character progresses in level, whether they are weapon or not. Only to throw that weapon away when a +2 is found. Instead of throwing the family weapon away for the first +1 weapon the party finds. With a legacy weapon, a character can have a family weapon throughout the whole campaign. Legacy weapons are magic weapons or items that increase in power as the characters progresses in level. ![]()
